The cyclist death toll
New York City cyclist deaths have climbed to 15 this year after two riders were killed in hit-and-runs on the same day, Aug. 18, in Brooklyn and the Bronx. More than 3,000 people have died in traffic violence since Vision Zero began in 2014, and advocates are pushing the fight toward November's Ballot Question 3, which would speed up street-safety construction.

A hit-and-run driver killed 29-year-old e-bike rider Paulina Tec Choc at Jamaica Avenue and Cypress Hills Street in Brooklyn, the city's 15th cyclist death this year, and hours later a fleeing BMW driver fatally struck 51-year-old Angelo Camera as he crossed Bruckner Boulevard in the Bronx. More than 3,000 people have been killed by traffic violence citywide since Vision Zero launched in 2014, and Transportation Alternatives called on New Yorkers to vote yes on Ballot Question 3 to speed up street-safety construction.
